about
""I’ve known Knxwledge since before the x. I remember a young dreaded beat-maker, working the graveyard shift of a dead-end job in Philly hitting me through his AIM app on his Sidekick. Now he does what he wants how he wants in Los Angeles, and on the low, he’s one of the nastiest cats on the beats today.
Blu is a legendary MC in the making, though I often think that folks en masse won’t fully appreciate what he contributes to our culture till after he’s through. I met him through an interview we did for my old blog, classic drug references, in 2006. fate and circumstance have crossed our paths several times since.
Blu and I were roommates for a small stretch of 2009. one day, inside a modest house atop Mt. Washitaw in Los Angeles, we began going through the few crate of records I owned. eventually I pulled out the white label bootleg to Bilal’s Love For Sale I bought at Poo Bah Records a few months prior. Blu lit up.
“daaamn, G! how much you want for this?”
I didn’t know what to answer, I loved that album and the record was damn near priceless to me. then a lightbulb went off, “I’ll trade you.”
“trade me what?”
“a song. I’ll give you the record and you let me put out a song of yours.”
Blu laughed, gave me a pound and quietly took the record into his room.
years passed but I kept our deal in the back archives of my brain. in 2010, when I first decided to put into motion a music project that after many stops and starts became what you hold in your hands today, I went to LA and told Knx about the idea.
he was down and informed me he’d recently cut a few tracks with Blu. one would end up on the fabled NoYork LP, a few others on the Jesus project but several others were homeless. immediately, I suggested some of those songs find a home on this project. Knx mumbled something along the lines of, “that’d be tight.”
I checked back in with Blu, he had not forgotten about our bargain and within a few weeks I had the session files to two songs to mix and master."
