about
"Pablo is one of a kind. another product of MySpace era profile-jumping, I forget exactly how I ended up on Pablo’s page, clicking through esoteric photos of shamans and eagles. listening to his rough and raw sketches, I was drawn to a strong emotional core I sensed in the material. several of the tunes stuck with me long after he’d taken many of them down and I’d moved on from the house that Tom built.
as chance would have it, Andrew Lojero, my roommate in Mt. Washitaw, was good friends with Pablo. the two had worked with DJ Dusk (RIP) in the early 2000’s, throwing seminal after-hours events that would cast a heavy influence over the artistic community of Los Angeles. we spent many mornings going through Pablo’s still active MySpace page, high off the alchemy of the sounds. Pablo and I met briefly, a jam session here and a night there, but I never got a chance to fully express what I felt about his music.
when I set this project in motion, I remembered those rough and raw MySpace sketches. I reached out to Andrew and asked him to put me in contact with his friend. Pablo was down.
we spent hours in conversation, discussing the music and veering off into tangents and circling back again. his collection of unreleased and unfinished songs is vast, several tunes were posited to be the cut for this project but it wasn’t until the 11th hour, through a visit to Ras_G’s SpaceBase that we stumbled onto “Disappear Without A Trace.”
I took Pablo over to SpaceBase to meet and build with _G, after “Yumshit” was already secured for the project. after _G went through some of The ASP’s latest cuts and we all three went through some backwoods, _G passed the auxiliary cable to Pablo. Pab pressed play on his ipod and digitally needle-dropped through some sketches and roughs. after he was through, I remembered I had some of his music as well. I plugged the cord into my iphone and played my Pablo playlist. Keep in mind Pablo and I thought we had settled on a certain track already and we were just sharing material with Ras when “Disappear Without A Trace” came on. as the tune was fading out _G looked over from his green chair and said, “seven inch?” Pablo and I both looked over at each other and it was like we both realized the exact same thing at the exact same moment."
